John 13: 34-35

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:  just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

John 13: 34-35

These are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ himself.  He admonishes us to love each other as he loved us.  This is a sacrificing love of laying down our own wants and rights (I Corinthians 6:7) and esteeming others higher than ourselves (Philippians 2:3).

Then Jesus goes a step further.  He teaches us that this love is the very thing that will mark us as His disciples.  Wow!  Think about this! Is your life reflecting this kind of love to the people in your sphere of influence?

So, if you have been telling your family members or your co-workers about Jesus but they are not listening, the very first step to take is to assess yourself to see if you are loving like Christ loves.  According to I Corinthians 13:2-3, you can share with them all the knowledge you have, but if you do not do it in love you gain nothing.  Once you walk in the sacrificing love of Jesus, your message will have a different impact.  They can deny what you tell them, but they cannot deny how you respond to them.  This is truly how we are to be Jesus in a perverse and crooked world.

And before you send me emails explaining how someone in your life doesn’t deserve to be treated so loving, remember – you did not deserve to be treated the way Jesus treated you when He suffered for your redemption while you were still in the guilt of your sins!  Jesus says, “Go and do likewise!”
