Ephesians 1:18-20

…that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead…

Ephesians 1:18-20

There is so much that was accomplished on that cross of Calvary.  Most of us understand that Jesus reconciled us back to God in order that we can enter heaven and live eternally with Him when we depart this Earth.  But few people come to understand all that was accomplished.  In the above scripture, we discover one of those amazing, obscure gifts Jesus provided through His death and resurrection.

…The immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe…

Do you realize that Christ suffered and died to place His power inside of us?  This is for the purpose of us carrying out Kingdom work – to destroy every work of the enemy and to reveal to mankind the truth of the gospel.  Jesus said in Mark 16 that certain signs will follow those who believe, including casting out demons and healing the sick. The same chapter also says God confirms the preaching with accompanying signs. This is the use of the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe.

In Paul’s writings he proclaims, “my message was not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith may not rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (I Corinthians 2:4-5).  Paul challenges some troublemakers with this statement,  “But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out, not the talk of these arrogant people, but their power.”  (I Corinthians 4:19).

I was challenged with this passage years ago.  I knew that the power that Jesus placed in me was not being used for His Kingdom, and I made it a mandate that I would renew my mind in the Word so that this dormant gift could come forth for God’s glory.  The result is that God now has His way in me with the freedom to utilize His power through me for His gospel.

Do you find this passage challenging as I did?  Personally, I hope so!  It is in these challenges that we mature in the Word becoming effective servants in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ!  The real question remains:  will you meet the challenge?
