You want to please God. Your heart desires the ways of God. But you are not always sure what you should do. Sometimes it’s the challenges of life that can make it very hard to do the right thing. The mind is foggy, the heart is weak, and the body is not wanting to do what the Lord is leading. You know you desire Christ. But you feel like a weak Christian. Is this you? It is time to get into spiritual shape! It is time to exercise your spiritual muscles!
How do you do this?
Just like you exercise your physical muscles. You are going to take truths from the Word of God and work them.
Any one can listen to truth and even believe it, but you must act on what you know in order to make it effective in your life.
Let me explain by way of example. A relative of mine used to attend Real Estate seminars. Hundreds of people would pay thousands of dollars to attend these seminars, all chasing the hope of making bundles of money. Woven in to the words of the teachers at these seminars were truths of how to create wealth or passive income with Real Estate. All the attendees heard all the same truth about how it is done. Most believed what they heard and understood how wealth could be achieved through Real Estate.
Yet, if you surveyed the attendees one year later, you would find that approximately 95% of those attendees had not created one bit of wealth or one dollar of passive income in the 12 months since they attended the seminar and heard those truths. As a matter of fact, many would attend seminar after seminar, yet not create any passive income or add to their wealth.
Does this indicate that the seminars were terrible and just don’t work? Not necessarily. There were 5% who did walk out of a seminar and created wealth for themselves. Were these small handful of people simply smarter than all the rest? It is possible. But I think the difference between the 95% who accomplished nothing but emptying their wallets of thousands of dollars and the 5% who created wealth and income is simply this – they acted.
Hearing the truth about Real Estate gave every single attendee in the conference knowledge of the truth. Most of them believed what they were taught and understood how it works. Only a handful of them took that knowledge and did something with it. These few exercised their knowledge and it set them on their way to producing larger muscles – in this case, their wealth.
So many Christians sit in church and hear the truth week after week, year after year. Christians spend multiple millions of dollars every year on books, DVDs and conferences all teaching about the Word of God and how to live as a Christian. Never in history has there been so much knowledge of God’s Word available to every Christian. But the largest percent of Christians are only hearing; they do nothing with the knowledge they receive.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only…
James 1:22
You are going to take truths from the Word of God and, as you “hear” them, you will also begin to “work” them, acting on what you know in order to make it effective in your life. By this you will build spiritual muscles becoming stronger and stronger in your faith, enabling you to work powerfully and effectively in the Kingdom of God, resulting in a victorious life in Christ.
Knowing the rich fullness of God’s Word is wonderful. Putting God’s Word into action is powerful! This is the year of action!
